DynaCut Tungsten Carbide Inserts

Standard Cutting Inserts

Versatile shapes for general milling and reaming.

Our standard line covers the essential geometries required for junk mills, stabilizers, and casing exit tools. Available in a wide variety of shapes to match your specific tool design and cutting requirements.

  • Shapes: Round, Square, Triangle, Rectangle, and Octagon.
  • Features: Available with flat tops or integrated chip breakers to improve cutting evacuation.
  • Applications: General junk milling, pilot mills, taper mills and whipstocks.

Piranha Inserts

Patented technology for superior obstruction removal.

The Piranha® is designed for the most demanding milling operations. Its multi-faceted design ensures that a sharp cutting edge is always presented to the work surface, regardless of orientation.

  • Self-Sharpening: New cutting facets are exposed as the insert wears.
  • Applications: Packer mills, composite bridge plug (CBP) mills, reamers, and thru-tubing tools.
  • Fluid Compatibility: Proven performance in mud, saltwater, air, or foam drilling fluids.

Wear & Gauge Protection

Compact inserts for stabilization and durability.

Beyond cutting, we offer inserts designed specifically for gauge protection and wear resistance on stabilizers and tool bodies.

  • Trapezoids & Half-Rounds: Ideal for protecting leading edges and high-wear surfaces.
  • Serrated Compacts: Provide aggressive grip and wear protection on stabilizer blades.
  • Gauge Tiles: Small, uniform tiles for protecting large wear surface areas, typically as part of a tile and spray-and-fused alloy application to guard insert interfaces

FAQs

What makes the Piranha insert different from a standard square insert?

The Piranha features a patented fluted geometry that provides multiple cutting edges on every face. Unlike a standard square insert that can become blunt, the Piranha® exposes new sharp edges as it wears, maintaining a high rate of penetration (ROP) throughout the run.

Do you offer inserts with chip breakers?

Yes. Most of our standard shapes (Square, Round, Octagon, etc.) are available with molded chip breakers. These features help break up long metal shavings into smaller chips, making them easier to circulate out of the hole and preventing “bird nesting” around the tool.

Can I use these inserts for air or foam drilling?

Absolutely. Our tungsten carbide grade is formulated to withstand the high heat generated during air or foam drilling, where liquid cooling is limited. The Piranha insert, in particular, is field-proven in these environments.

What is the best insert for milling composite bridge plugs?

For composite plugs, we highly recommend the Piranha or Fluted Cube inserts. Their aggressive cutting geometry shreds the composite material efficiently, while their self-sharpening nature ensures the mill stays aggressive through multiple plugs.
